Converting New Fall 12 Accepted students to Registered Students

Graduate Program Directors,

We are now entering the

final phase of the recruitment cycle for new Fall 2012admits - converting our accepted students into registered students.

At this point in the cycle, we encourage you to maintain contact with your accepted students in order to ensure that they register in a timely manner and to assist in solidifying their commitment to attend Brock for graduate study in the Fall.

Fall/Winter registration for graduate students commences July 9th.

We also encourage you to not delay your students’ registration until their arrival on campus as course/program advising can be completed through email, phone, Skype or the posting of information for new admits on your program website.

Through the completion of early registration we can assess the total new admit enrolment and continue to make additional offers where requested and required. Additionally, once the number of registered students meets the enrolment target, we can close a program on the Web application. Until that time, programs must remain open to accepting applications and continue to process them.

All new admitted students have received registration information in their offer of admission letter and they will be receiving a series of emails over the next couple of months with additional information from the FGS. These emails include:

Registration reminders – first one will go out just before registration opens; and follow up will continue shortly after

Orientation invitation – inviting them to attend the FGS New Graduate Student Orientation on September 11th (GPD’s will be receiving their invitation at that time as well)

Professional Development and additional opportunities emails

Additional reminders as a new student (including registration to avoid late fees)

The FGS is happy to assist programs with sending out any additional program specific emails if desired by the program.  Using EXBU to send timed/bulk communication to incoming graduate students has proven to be very effective for the FGS and would also be useful for graduate program communication.

The FGS has removed as many pre-registration conditions as possible in order toallow students to register as soon as possible. Instead of blocking a student’s ability to register, the FGS will continue to monitor “Pre-Registration” conditions throughout the first term to ensure that the new student meets any conditions.

Please remember that a student’s registration is not complete until you the Graduate Program Director authorize the registration through the Course Authorization Screen.

We thank you for your continued recruitment efforts!

The Faculty of Graduate Studies team
