Highlights for this issue

• NEW — AGE-WELL Graduate Student and Postdoctoral Awards in Technology and Aging: The awards provide graduate students and postdoctoral fellows from the social, health and applied sciences across Canada with access to training and mentorship opportunities through the AGE-WELL Network of Centres of Excellence. Highly qualified candidates may be eligible for awards of up to $18,000 for graduate students and $40,000 for postdoctoral fellows.

• NEW — Faculty of Graduate Studies Distinguished Alumni Award: The award recognizes graduates of Brock's master's and doctoral programs for outstanding achievement in and contributions to graduate studies, graduate education or graduate culture, at Brock or elsewhere, that has made a difference to their communities and beyond. Please visit for more information.
Deadline: Nominations accepted until July 6


• NEW — Brock's Bioscience and Social Science Research Ethics Boards are recruiting graduate student members: These dynamic volunteer boards provide a unique opportunity to gain insight into human research ethics. The REBs are responsible for reviewing and assessing protocols for research involving human participants within the University or under University auspices. The REBs ensure that the physical safety and personal integrity of human participants in research are respected and protected by interpreting and applying the Tri-Council Policy Statement (TCPS2) and relevant legislation.
Research Services is currently looking for master's- or doctorate-level students to serve a one- or two-year term. Interested applicants should submit a current C.V., a written academic reference (attesting to their ability to handle the extra workload), and a cover letter outlining their research interests and why they are interested in joining the Bioscience REB (BREB) or Social Science REB (SREB).

• NEW — Search Brock theses on Theses Canada Portal: Brock's graduate student theses are now fully integrated into the Library and Archives Canada's AMICUS system. This means that approximately 2,000 Brock graduate student dissertations have been added to the definitive digital collection of Canadian theses, and are thus available to scholars across the country and the world. Visit the Theses Canada Portal for full details.

• Student Health Services (SHS) — Spring Semester hours: During the spring semester (to July 9) SHS will be open Monday to Thursday (closed on Friday, Saturday and Sunday) as follows:
9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. - All morning appointments are seen at the SHS office located inside Campus Pharmacy (beside East Academic).
12:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. - All afternoon appointments are seen at the SHS Harrison Hall office located beside Campus Security (across from the Walker Complex).
SHS provides a range of services and programs for students including confidential primary health care, prevention programs, wellness education and strategic medical and academic partnership promoting optimal health and university success.

• REMINDER - e-Bulletin summer schedule: The e-Bulletin will go to a monthly distribution for June, July and August. Issues are scheduled for Thursday, July 23 and Thursday, Aug. 13. The e-Bulletin’s regular distribution of every other week is expected to resume on Thursday, Sept. 3.

Scholarships/Awards/Grants

• NEW — China‑Canada Scholar Exchange Program 2015‑16: This program, funded by the China Scholarship Council in partnership with the Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development (DFATD), has recently re-opened and continues to accept applications for 2015-16. The program will make a number of awards to Canadian faculty and graduate students who wish to study and/or conduct research at selected Chinese universities. In making awards, preference will be given to those whose research is in subject areas related to China. For faculty and research staff, awards will be made for periods of study in China ranging from eight weeks (minimum) to 12 months (maximum). Full details of the program and links to the application form can be found on the program website.

• NEW — NSERC Industrial Postgraduate Scholarships (IPS) Applications Accepted until August 31, 2015: NSERC has announced that the Mitacs' Accelerate program (see below) will become the primary delivery agent for federally supported graduate-level industrial research and development internships. NSERC's Industrial Postgraduate Scholarships Program will be wound down following the fulfillment of current commitments. NSERC will continue to accept new applications until August 31, 2015, and will honour all commitments under the existing terms and conditions. Visit the NSERC website for more details.

• The Mitacs Accelerate Program: Mitacs provides funding for graduate students and postdoctoral fellows to apply their specialized expertise to business-related research challenges. Partners can be either for-profit businesses or not-for-profit organizations. For more information contact Louisa Ho, Commercialization Research Officer, at lho@brocku.ca or visit the  Mitacs website.

Endeavour Scholarships and Fellowships: The Government of Australia has recently opened the competition for its Endeavour Scholarships and Fellowships for 2016. This initiative offers support to international scholars to undertake study, research or professional development in Australia.
The Endeavour Research Fellowships provide funding for graduate study or post-doctoral work in an Australian institution. The fellowships are not limited to young scholars, and any candidate with a doctoral qualification may apply.
The Endeavour Executive Awards are intended to help build international professional links and collaborations with Australia. Successful candidates will be funded for one to four months of professional development in Australia. Please note that these awards do not fund direct academic research; they are intended to provide a mechanism for developing or learning new skills in a scholar's field or area of expertise, rather than furthering existing research interests and outcomes.

• Ontario's TalentEdge Fellowship Program (TFP): The program provides support for Ontario-based PhD graduates and Postdoctoral Fellows (PDFs) to work on industry-driven research and development projects. This program is open to PDFs across all disciplines and areas of specialization. Fellowships may be academic (college or university), or company based.
Each 12-month TalentEdge fellowship is valued at $85,000.
Applications may be submitted at any time and will be reviewed throughout the year.

• Canadian Institutes of Health Research IHSRP Travel Awards: IHSPR will provide travel awards in 2014-2015 for graduate students, post-doctoral fellows and new investigators to attend and present their research at meetings, conferences (including international conferences) and/or symposia that align with the Institute's mandate and advance their professional development and/or knowledge translation initiatives in health services and policy research.

Student international funding opportunities: Visit Brock International for a listing of scholarship and awards programs

• Brock Library Open Access Publishing Fund:
Open to Brock faculty, graduate students and postdocs. The purpose of this grant is to assist researchers in disseminating their research broadly via an Open Access (OA) journal. A minimum of four awards will be granted, to a maximum of $2,500 each [Total funds = $10,000]. This Grant is intended to support researchers with limited or no funding. If an alternate funding source is available that permits payment of submission fees (e.g. a research grant), that source must be used before applying to the OA Publishing Fund.
