FINAL REMINDER — Graduate Studies Continuing Student Internal Scholarship/Award Application: A new process has been developed to apply for the Brock University Donor Internal Scholarships/Awards for continuing graduate students. Please refer to the Faculty of Graduate Studies website for a list of scholarships/awards and the eligibility criteria for each scholarship/award and the upcoming link to the Graduate Studies Continuing Student Internal Scholarship/Award Application. You will complete the application online, a hard copy is not required.
Application Deadline: Thursday, February 12. After this date the application will not be available.

NEW — SHIFT Graduate Student Conference: Event Date: Thursday, April 30, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Location: Pond Inlet
SAVE THE DATE! How do you envision your career path? Transitioning from your graduate education to the world of work, entails many incremental steps. It's a process referred to as 'career readiness'. We are planning our second professional skills conference and would like your suggestions for workshop topics and themes related to 'career readiness'. The awards will be presented at the MNK conference, Thursday, April 9.
Graduate Mentorship Awards
Graduate students are invited to submit nominations for the 2015 awards.
The awards honour and recognize the essential role of faculty supervisors in the mentorship of graduate students.
Awards are presented in two categories:

· mentorship of master’s students only

· mentorship of both master’s and PhD students


Value: $1,000 to assist faculty with ongoing graduate student mentorship

Marilyn Rose Graduate Leadership Award

The Brock community is invited to submit nomination for this newly established award to recognize faculty, staff and students for their work and leadership in enhancing the graduate studies experience at the University.

Chinese Government Scholarship: Chinese government offers a series of scholarship schemes to international students and scholars to undertake studies and research in Chinese institutions of higher education. For more details and application instruction, click here.

• Canadian Institutes of Health Research IHSRP Travel Awards:
IHSPR will provide travel awards in 2014-2015 for graduate students, post-doctoral fellows and new investigators to attend and present their research at meetings, conferences (including international conferences) and/or symposia that align with the Institute's mandate and advance their professional development and/or knowledge translation initiatives in health services and policy research.

• 2015 SSHRC Impact Awards competition — Talent Award:
The Talent Award recognizes outstanding achievement by an individual who, at the nomination deadline, holds a SSHRC doctoral or postdoctoral fellowship or scholarship (including, but not limited to, a Canada Graduate Scholarship, Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship or Banting Postdoctoral Fellowship). The Talent Award is given to an individual who maintains academic excellence, has a talent for research and knowledge mobilization and has demonstrated clear potential to be a future leader within and/or outside the academic sector.

Award value: $50,000
Deadline: Institutions will have until Wednesday, April 8, to submit their nominations. Winners will be announced in the fall of 2015.

• Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF) Young Researchers Award:
The GBIF Secretariat invites proposals from graduate students for the 2015 GBIF Young Researchers Award. This prize intends to foster innovative research and discovery in biodiversity informatics by graduate students. This year, GBIF will present two awards of €4,000 each to one master's student and one doctoral student. Students must apply through and be nominated by a Head of Delegation (HoD) of a GBIF Participant country.

• Brock Library Open Access Publishing Fund:
Open to Brock faculty, graduate students and postdocs. The purpose of this grant is to assist researchers in disseminating their research broadly via an Open Access (OA) journal. A minimum of four awards will be granted, to a maximum of $2,500 each [Total funds = $10,000]. This Grant is intended to support researchers with limited or no funding. If an alternate funding source is available that permits payment of submission fees (e.g. a research grant), that source must be used before applying to the OA Publishing Fund.

We are recruiting graduate level students (Masters/PhD) for volunteer writers: contributing creative and stimulating blog content. Writers will have some editorial range yet provide a voice for the graduate student experience. Writers must submit sample of writing. For more details, please contact kperry@brocku.ca

Promote your workshops to graduate students with us: If you are hosting a workshop or event related to graduate student professional development that may interest graduate students from within or outside of your faculty, please send a request to have your event posted on the Vitae calendar to kperry@brocku.ca. The number of participants can be monitored and capped through our online registry. Specific learning outcomes and the competencies that align with your workshop or
information session can also be tracked.

Deadlines are coming up as follows:
Call for Oral and Poster Proposals — Submit proposals by Friday, Feb. 20: Graduate students at all stages of their research are invited to display a poster or give an oral presentation.
