Call for Papers: Consuming Intimacies Symposium

Deadline: April 01, 2015

The Social Justice Research Institute of Brock University, St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada, announces a call for papers and artistic contributions for an upcoming symposium (October 15–16, 2015). This two-day symposium aims to re-think concepts and practices of intimacy and social justice issues through a wide spectrum of twenty-first-century intimate labours and their associated economies. SJRI Postdoctoral Fellowship

Deadline: April 15, 2015

The Canada Research Chair in Social Justice, in collaboration with the Social Justice Research Institute (SJRI) of Brock University, invites applicants for a one-year post-doctoral fellowship, renewable for up to two years contingent upon the candidate’s successful application for external funding. The post-doctoral fellow’s research will contribute to understanding the wave of anti-austerity and pro-democracy social movements that appeared in 2011, from the Arab Spring to Occupy, and which continue to erupt around the world. Deadline: April 20, 2015

The Faculty Steering Committee (FSC) of the Social Justice Research Institute (SJRI) invites applications for affiliation from social justice-oriented tenured and tenure-­track Brock faculty members and professional librarians. Interested individuals may apply for SJRI affiliation by submitting the following information to SJRI’s administrative coordinator, Maria Callaghan by April 20, 2015. (More info…)

Call for NOI: SJRI Graduate Student Symposium

Deadline: May 01, 2015

The Faculty Steering Committee (FSC) of the SJRI invites Notices of Interest from affiliated SJRI members in mounting a funded graduate student symposium in Spring 2016 around an intellectually significant thematic/problematic, which is transdisciplinary in nature, relevant to social justice, and likely to be attractive to Masters and PhD students. SJRI offers: a core budget of up to $3,000 (+ $2,000 for limited student travel support); financial administration of the project; logistical support; knowledge mobilization know‑how and infrastructure; and assistance with supplementary grant‑writing if needed. Call for Applications: SJRI Grants Program

Deadline: May 15, 2015

The Spring competition for the SJRI Grants program is now open. This includes both the Seed Grants ($7000) and Local Engagement Grants ($2000). All SJRI affiliates may apply. Applications should be submitted to SJRI’s administrative coordinator, Maria Callaghan by May 15th. Rachel Hirsch, SJRI Projects Facilitator, is available to work with you on your SJRI grant application. Consulting with Rachel will increase your chances of success. Contact her soon (ext. 6624; rhirsch@brocku.ca) if you plan to apply to the Spring competition. She works at arms-length from the adjudication process. What is SJRI?

The Social Justice Research Institute (SJRI) was established Fall 2013 as a leader in advanced transdisciplinary social justice scholarship, innovative knowledge mobilization strategies, and community-university partnerships. SJRI is a vibrant collective of 40+ Brock faculty members brought together by a shared concern for pressing social justice issues and supported by a Projects Facilitator (Dr. Rachel Hirsch) and Administrative Coordinator (Maria Callaghan). A Faculty Steering Committee (FSC) governs SJRI representing a range of cross-disciplinary perspectives from the social sciences, humanities, and education.

Why are you getting this message?

You are receiving this message because you are an affiliated member, participating member, or a friend of SJRI who has requested updates on SJRI activities and events. Affiliated members are Brock tenured and tenure-track faculty members and professional librarians who have successfully applied for affiliation with the SJRI. Participating members are students, instructors, activists, artists, community members, individuals from NGOs, and people from other universities who wish to have a relationship with the SJRI. All members are welcome to attend and participate in SJRI-sponsored events and research projects.
