Studies in Social Justice Special Issue on Mental Health
Deadline: March 06, 2015
Guest Editors: Lacey Croft (York University), Mandi Gray (York University) and Dr. Heidi Rimke (University of Winnipeg)
This special edition of Studies in Social Justice seeks to critically explore the complex relationship between social injustice and the pathologization of individuals. In order to do so, focus will be placed on critical approaches to understanding the power of medicine and psychiatry in modern society. The now commonly held view that some people are ab/normal is the consequence and reflection of the growing cultural authority of the human sciences in everyday life. The question of mental and emotional health/illness will be examined within critical theoretical frameworks that seek to interrogate the medical and psychiatric models of the human sciences broadly conceived.
Please see the call for papers for further information about how to submit proposals.

Call for Papers: Consuming Intimacies Symposium
Deadline: April 01, 2015
The Social Justice Research Institute of Brock University, St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada, announces a call for papers and artistic contributions for an upcoming symposium (October 15–16, 2015).
This two-day symposium aims to re-think concepts and practices of intimacy and social justice issues through a wide spectrum of twenty-first-century intimate labours and their associated economies. We envisage two interconnected streams for papers, artistic contributions, and discussions. While underpinned by diverse transdisciplinary approaches and problematics, these two streams share a focus on intimacies and embodiment; entanglements of care, work, consumption, and commodification; varied forms of “global-intimate pairings”; gender, class, and racial inequalities; and attention to matters of epistemic justice and injustice.
Please see the call for papers for further information about abstract submission.
