Updates from SJRI

Introductions and Transitions

Five new Affiliated members and two new Faculty Steering Committee members were voted in during our Annual General Meeting on May 7, 2015. We offer a very warm welcome to our newest Affiliated members: Simon Black (Labour Studies), Jeff Boggs, (Geography) Julian Kitchen (Teacher Education & Tecumseh Centre), Tamari Kitossa (Sociology), and Gyllian Raby (Dramatic Arts). Thank you also to Tami Friedman (History) and Laurie Morrison (Library Liaison Services) who will be serving as Faculty Steering Committee Members.

Our Projects Facilitator, Rachel Hirsch, will be on maternity/parental leave from June 22, 2015 until June 20, 2016. We will be in touch as our search for her replacement proceeds. In the meantime, any inquiries or social justice information to be circulated should be sent to sjri@brocku.ca. Starting immediately, the SJRI email digest will be circulated every 2-3 weeks and e-bulletins will be discontinued until further notice. Please visit the SJRI blog and website for up to date information on social justice funding, events, and other opportunities.

What is SJRI?

The Social Justice Research Institute (SJRI) was established Fall 2013 as a leader in advanced transdisciplinary social justice scholarship, innovative knowledge mobilization strategies, and community-university partnerships. SJRI is a vibrant collective of 40+ Brock faculty members brought together by a shared concern for pressing social justice issues and supported by a Projects Facilitator (Dr. Rachel Hirsch) and Administrative Coordinator (Maria Callaghan). A Faculty Steering Committee (FSC) governs SJRI representing a range of cross-disciplinary perspectives from the social sciences, humanities, education, and library services.
