Report from the Dean’s Office
Greetings to all faculty, staff and students in the Faculty of Applied Health Sciences. This is Dr. Peter Tiidus, the new Dean. Since my arrival on campus in early July, I have been busy getting into my new role and learning the many things I need to know about the Brock and FAHS communities. While this will be an ongoing process for me for the next little while, I have been very impressed so far with what I have seen and learned about the Faculty and how friendly, helpful and welcoming everyone has been. I look forward to working with all of you.
This fall I will be asking for a short individual meeting with each faculty member to get to know a bit about each of you, your research, your teaching and your ideas for our collective future. I will also be coming to a meeting of each department to introduce myself and to hear about some of the things that each department is doing. I have already met with each department chair and have meetings scheduled with directors of the FAHS research centers. I am of course also meeting regularly with the Dean’s office staff and the Associate Deans. In the meantime, please feel free to drop by my office to introduce yourselves or to say hello if you see me wandering about.
Other updates:
Since I have arrived a few things have continued to develop which are updated below:
- The Niagara Region Catholic School Board has provided FAHS with funds to develop and run the outdoor education programs for the board for the upcoming academic year. These funds will provide for the hiring of a CSL supervisor as well as for infrastructure and logistics costs. It will also expand placement possibilities for Recreation and Leisure students who will be involved in the delivery of these programs.
- In addition, there are ongoing and upcoming searches for new/replacement faculty in Nursing, Health Sciences and Sports Management. An individual has also been identified as the candidate for our Tier II Canada Research Chair and the Faculty and Research Office will be working with them on their CRC application.
- We will also soon begin searching to fill the Marketing and Communications position recently vacated by Mike Armstrong.
- The external reviews for the Masters in Public Health and Masters in Professional Kinesiology program proposals have been completed and responded to by the departments and myself. The reviews were very positive and we are looking forward to the next steps in to process of hopefully starting these programs by the next academic year.
