Report from the Dean’s Office

This represents my final Faculty Insider as Interim Dean. I want to thank all faculty, staff, and students for making my term as Interim Dean such a great experience. It has truly been an honour to represent this Faculty. I would also like to warmly welcome Dr. Peter Tiidus as our new Dean of Applied Health Sciences. Peter and I have had a chance to meet on a number of occasions regarding his transition to Dean and we are in good hands under Peter’s leadership.

Senate meeting

This year’s final Senate meeting took place on Wednesday, May 27th. I invite everyone to view the agenda and various items from that meeting: https://brocku.ca/webfm_send/36448

Speaking of enrolment projections, as of Monday, June 29th, 907incoming students have registered as majors in our Faculty. Another 121 have confirmed their offers, but have not yet registered. This will mark the largest incoming class in FAHS’ history and could be the first time that FAHS has the largest incoming class of any Faculty on campus.

Thanks to all of you who attended this year’s convocation. We had two ceremonies this year. A special thanks to Dr. Madelyn Law who delivered a very inspirational convocation address to the graduates (click here to view). Dr. Law also received the Faculty Award for Excellence in Teaching, while Dr. Martin Tammemagi was the Faculty’s first recipient of the FAHS Research Excellence Award.

Welcome to Darlene

A special welcome to Darlene Kitcher as our Faculty’s Interim Executive Assistant. Darlene is coming to us from the Secretariat’s Office and is replacing Gloria Davis during her 2 year secondment to the President’s Office to assist with the transition to a new President next year.

Harvard Centre for Medical Simulation Scholarship

Congratulations to Dr. Karyn Taplay and Elizabeth Horsley who received scholarships to attend the Harvard Centre for Medical Simulation. They are one of only 4 teams in North America to receive these prestigious scholarships to attend the week long education program in Boston.
