Report from the Dean’s Office

First of all, thanks to everyone for all your great work for another successful academic year. The beginning of the Spring term officially rings in the start of a new academic calendar (http://www.brocku.ca/webcal/current/).

Lots of great news to share with you as we head into the new academic year.

Senate meeting

Information on the April 15th, 2015 Senate can be viewed here: https://brocku.ca/webfm_send/36079. Of significance is the acceptance of the final report of the Senate Program Prioritization committee: https://brocku.ca/webfm_send/36048. Overall, our programs were reviewed very positively by the committee. I would encourage all faculty and staff members to review the report and critically reflect upon the recommendations of the committee. A big thanks to Nota Klentrou who chaired this committee on behalf of Senate.

Senate also approved the recommendation of the Planning, Priorities and Budget Advisory Committee that the proposed 2015-16 budget is in line with the academic mission of the University. You can view a draft of the proposed budget (yet to be approved by the Board of Trustees) at: https://www.brocku.ca/webfm_send/35399. I would like to draw your attention to the proposed increase in Faculty budgets by $2 million dollars for 2015-16; of that, there is a $1 million increase in FAHS’s overall budget. I would like to thank Suzanne Gabriel for all of her excellent work in preparing our Faculty’s budget submission and to all the Chairs and Associate Deans for their work in helping to develop next year’s budget.

Community partner event

The Office of Experiential Learning in FAHS hosted a community partner event with a number of our community partners. A special thanks to Janet Westbury for organizing this year’s celebration event. This past year, FAHS offered 49 courses that feature experiential learning components. Of those courses, 2529 students were enrolled in these courses with students investing approximately 227,582 hours in the community. Read the full story: http://www.brocku.ca/news/28986

Due to the high demand of our large poster printer, we have had to replace our old printer with a new printer. This new printer is capable of printing posters much faster and also print onto different materials that could be special ordered. Please click here for the new poster printing form/guidelines. All poster printing requests will now be handled by Jon Therrien.
